“Intuit” Google listing calls are a scam

#MiddleburyCT #Intuit

Someone claiming to be from Intuit (on a number that is identified as Intuit) has started calling the newspaper claiming that its Google listing needs to be updated and urging the newspaper to call back right away. An inquiry about this on a Google search elicited the following information:

No, Intuit does not call people about their Google listings.
Important points to remember:
  • Intuit wouldn’t make unsolicited calls. Intuit typically only reaches out if you’ve requested assistance.
  • Google Business Profile is a free product. If someone claiming to be from Google or Intuit asks you to pay for managing or verifying your Google Business Profile, it’s a scam.
  • Be wary of calls claiming urgent issues. Scammers often use tactics like claiming an emergency with your Google listing to pressure you into revealing sensitive information or making payments.
  • Intuit will never ask for your password or one-time passcode over the phone.
  • To verify legitimate calls from Google, look for specific area codes or email addresses.
If you receive a suspicious call, you can:
  • Hang up immediately.
  • Report the call to the FTC.
  • Report the call to Google directly.
It is highly likely that any call you receive claiming to be from Intuit about your Google listing is a scam.
