The public meeting on the Route 64 Corridor Study will be Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Shepardson Community Center at 1172 Whittemore Road in Middlebury. The meeting can be joined via Zoom at us02web.zoom.us/j/83858666353.

The state plans to change the I-84 interchange at Exit 17 where traffic currently flows through the intersection of Routes 63 and 64, widening and realigning the intersection. The study focused on the three-mile section of Route 64 leading to that intersection. Middlebury’s Greenway travels along that stretch of Route 64 and then turns south along Route 63 before ending at Maggie McFly’s. The study focused on the section of Route 64 shown in red on the map below:

NVCOG stated “The overall goal of the study is to improve access and connections to the Greenway, address safety concerns, and create a safer environment for all travelers within the corridor, especially the more vulnerable users. The CTDOT has initiated plans to reconstruct the I-84 interchange with Route 63 and realign and widen the Route 64 and Route 63 intersection. The town has expressed concern that the state project will not adequately accommodate vulnerable road users. Therefore, a key focus of the study is how the realignment of the intersection of Route 64 and Route 63 will affect pedestrian and bicyclist safety through the area.”
