TD Bank in January mailed letters to its Middlebury customers informing them that the branch at 503 Middlebury Road in Middlebury will close April 23, 2021. The Middlebury branch is one of six Connecticut locations that are closing, all part of a group of 81 locations in 15 states that will close. They account for about 7% of all its locations. The other Connecticut locations that are closing are in Hartford, Winsted, New Canaan, West Haven and Woodbridge.

TD Bank Corporate Communications Associate Paige Wilkins said the bank regularly evaluates their existing stores (branches) and new locations and considers many business factors, including the number of customers visiting its stores, transaction volumes, the location’s proximity to other TD Bank stores and the number of customers.

Customers at the Middlebury branch are being encouraged to check out the bank’s locations on West Main Street in Waterbury and on Main Street in Watertown.

Although the branch will not close until April 23, customers who have safe deposit boxes were informed they need to schedule an appointment by April 2, 2021, to remove the contents of their boxes. Those who open a box at another TD Bank will be given a free box of the same size for one year at the new location.

If customers fail to move the contents of their current box by April 2, 2021, TD will drill open the box and move the contents to the West Main Street location. The bank said this is in accordance with state law.

Customers who have questions related to the the closing can call 203-758-8093.

Anthony Calabrese said Vaszauskas Farm owns the property and the bank had a couple of years left on a 15-year lease. He said a number of real estate agents have contacted him to discuss possibilities for the property once TD Bank completes its move.
