At 4 p.m. Saturday, Connecticut state officials said there were 5,276 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as of 12 p.m. Saturday, April 4. This is an increase of 362 cases over the 4,914 the day before at 12 p.m. The number of confirmed cases in Middlebury remained at 10.
On Saturday, 1,033 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 165 had died.
The groups with the largest number of cases were ages 50 – 59 (1,084 cases) followed by ages 40 – 49 (900 cases) and ages 60 – 69 (829 cases).
On a graph showing how many people per 100,000 in each age group are testing positive, the three highest rates of positive tests were ages 80 and older (238 cases per 100,000), ages 50 – 59 (205 cases per 100,000), and ages 40 – 49 (204 cases per 100,000).
The report said a state public health lab tested 2,544 patients, and 553, or 22%, of those tested positive. Statewide, more than 22,029 tests have been reported.
Hospitalization numbers were: Fairfield County had 475 (+66) patients, New Haven County had 324 (+31) patients, and Hartford County had 184 (+18) patients. Other counties had 19 or fewer patients.
