Earth Day 2026 arrived in Middlebury on April 22, 2026, as a cool (41 degrees) and rainy day. Fortunately, Earth Day celebrations are set for Friday, April 24, through Sunday, April 26. Join one or more of the following activities or just spend some time on your own doing Middlebury’s traditional Earth Day task – picking up litter along Middlebury roads and/or the Greenway.
No formal Earth Day trash pickup is scheduled for this year, but starting today, Wednesday, April 22, the Parks & Rec Department will have gloves and trash bags available for residents wishing to take a moment this week or weekend to do some Earth Day trash pickup at a location around town of their choosing. Gloves and trash bags also will be available at the Friday tree planting.

Friday, April 24
Arbor Day/Earth Day Tree Planting – The Middlebury250 Committee invites people to attend a tree planting ceremony on the Town Green Friday, April 24, at 11 a.m. Eversource donated the tree to be planted and also has donated tree seedlings that will be given out for free to ceremony attendees while supplies last. In addition, the Parks & Rec Department will have gloves and trash bags available for residents planning to pick up trash.
Saturday, April 25
Create a Dome – Join Dita Carley at 10 a.m. to create a dome sculpture with sticks and natural materials at Lake Elise. Celebrate the week of Earth Day and join Carley in gathering sticks for the dome. Kids and creative spirits of all ages are welcome. Park near Lake Elise on Long Meadow Road or at Meadowview Park. Woodbury Earth Day Celebration – Woodbury’s 34th Earth Day Celebration will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Hollow Park at 43 Hollow Road in Woodbury. Enjoy a day filled with interactive exhibits, eco-friendly vendors, live music, hands-on workshops, children’s activities, and more!
Sunday, April 26
Clean up with Casey – The Middlebury Democratic Town Committee is sponsoring this Earth Day trash pickup from 1 to 4 p.m. at Meadowview Park. They will provide trash bags and gloves and will pick up and dispose of filled trash bags. Selectman candidate Casey Larkin will be there for those who would like to meet him.
