Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother

Decio Macedo de Escobar M.D., 93, entered the gates of heaven on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Sharon de Escobar for 56 years.

Decio was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on April 9, 1930, son of the late Asdrubal Palmedo and Francesca (Macedo) de Escobar. He was a graduate of Colegio Anchieta Rio Grande de Sul, Brazil for his undergraduate and received his medical degree from the University of Sao Paulo Faculdade of Medicina, Brazil. He served in the Brazilian military in the calvary unit under his father, General
Asdrubal. There he developed patterns of fortitude, discipline and precision which served him throughout his life. He served two consecutive residencies: Surgical Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) at Yale New Haven Hospital and pathology at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven. He practiced medicine in Waterbury as an ENT specializing in Allergy, Immunology and Medical Hypnosis for 60 plus years. He was fluent in seven languages: Portuguese, Latin, Spanish, Italian, French, Greek and English.

Decio loved life. He was known by all that knew him as exceptionally kind, gentle, considerate, and good natured. He enjoyed telling jokes, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a wine connoisseur. He had a keen interest in timepieces. He loved books and was an avid reader. He loved to dance and was a life-long advocate of healthy living; he ran and worked out consistently throughout his life, even earning an honorary black belt in Karate along the way. Decio knew what was truly important and excluded the rest. He lived with a healthy balance and good patterns in his life.

In addition to his wife, Decio leaves behind to cherish his memory his four children, Marcio Duque of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Marcelo de Escobar and his wife, Jurgita, of Prospect, Connecticut; Monique de Escobar of Boston, Mass.; and Marcos Decio of Middlebury, Connecticut; three grandchildren, Giada, Audrina and Ellias Decio de Escobar; and a brother, Cesar de Escobar of Bage, Brazil, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews from Brazil.
