Middlebury’s tree lighting festivities have moved to Sunday, December 4, due to the inclement weather forecast for Saturday. A perfect indoor holiday activity for Saturday will be St. George’s Gingerbread Village, which opens at 9 a.m. Read on for details on the Gingerbread Village, the tree lighting and Santa’s mailbox.

Gingerbread Village

The St. George’s Episcopal Church annual Gingerbread Village will be open Saturday, December 3, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, December 4, from 12 to 7 p.m.; and Monday, December 5, to Friday, December 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The final day is Saturday December 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This gingerbread house, Candy Factory, was created for an earlier Gingerbread Village at St. George’s Episcopal Church.

The Village theme this year is “Candy Land.” This cherished event also includes the sale of decorate your own Gingerbread Cookie Kits, homemade crafts, dollar store shop, bake sale, and raffle baskets. Lunch will be available “to go” on December 3 and 10.

The Gingerbread Village is free to the public (donations welcome!) with plenty of parking. The church is handicap accessible. For more information or inquiries regarding group visits please email saintgeorgesct@gmail.com or call 203-758-9864. The village website is www.gingerbreadvillagect.com.

Annual Tree Lighting

Middlebury’s Parks and Rec Department will present the annual tree lighting ceremony Sunday, December 4, starting at 4:30 p.m. on the Town Hall steps. It will be followed by caroling around the Green and a visit from Santa. Young children will be able to visit Santa in Town Hall after the tree lighting. Middlebury Congregational Church will serve hot chocolate.

Santa’s mailbox

Santa’s mailbox will be on the Town Green starting December 3 so residents can deposit their Christmas wish lists. Santa is looking forward to reading and responding to all the special letters he receives. Letters placed in the mailbox by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, are guaranteed to receive a personalized letter from him.

To receive a reply, don’t forget to include the child’s full name, age, mailing address and telephone number (in case Santa has any questions). Siblings and/or pets’ names also are encouraged.

If you have any questions, please contact Elf Central at 203-758-2520, ext. 702.
