Middlebury’s registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in their respective primaries today, Tuesday, August 9, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Shepardson Community Building at 1172 Whittemore Road in Middlebury. Voting will be by district with District 1 voting in the lower level of the building and District 2 voting in the upper level.

Democrats will vote on candidates for Secretary of the State and Treasurer. Former Secretary of the State Denise Merrill resigned before her term expired so she could care for her ailing husband. Treasurer Shawn Wooden announced he would not run for another term.

For Secretary of the State, Democrats will choose between Stephanie Thomas and Maritza Bond. They will choose among three candidates, Erick Russell, Dita Bhargava and Karen DuBois-Walton as their candidate for Treasurer.

Republicans will vote on candidates for the United States Senate, Secretary of the State and Judge of Probate. Their Senate candidate will oppose Democrat Richard Blumenthal, who is running for reelection, and their Secretary of the State candidate will run against the candidate chosen by the Democrats in their primary.

For U.S. Senator, they will choose among Themis Klarides, Leora R. Levy and Peter Lumaj. For Secretary of the State, they will choose between Dominic Rapini and Terrie E. Wood.

For Judge of Probate, Republicans will choose between two candidates: Rosa Rebimbas, who Republicans endorsed, and incumbent Peter Mariano, who failed to get the Republican endorsement and was instead endorsed by Democrats.
