On Thursday, December 23, 2021, Connecticut state officials said from Sunday, December 19, at 8:30 p.m. to Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 8:30 p.m., the number of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 474,557 cases. This is an increase of 12,782 cases over three days. The state daily test positivity rate as of Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 8:30 p.m. was 9.02%, up from 6.85% on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., 837  COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, the same number of patients as on Sunday. Through Wednesday, December 22, deaths numbered 9,077, an increase of 75 deaths since December 15. Deaths are reported once a week.

Cumulative cases in Middlebury and abutting towns were: Middlebury – 852 (+29) confirmed and 165 (+2) probable, Naugatuck – 4,353 confirmed and 755 probable, Oxford – 1,331 confirmed and 168 probable, Southbury – 1,697 confirmed and 349 probable, Woodbury – 825 confirmed and 168 probable, Watertown – 2,949 confirmed and 520 probable, and Waterbury – 19,321 confirmed and 2,710 probable.
