Competing town departments in Middlebury are kicking off a town-wide food drive today, Monday, March 22, to stock the Middlebury Food Bank. The drive will run through Saturday, March 27, when it will culminate in a vehicle Easter parade through town at 1 p.m.

The drive is a friendly competition to see which department can collect the most food. Competing departments are Fire, Police and Public Works. Each department will have a box where donations can be dropped off throughout the week. They also will collect food during the vehicle parade Saturday.

Bins for food donations are ready and waiting at the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department headquarters.

Find donation boxes at the side door at 65 Tucker Hill Road (Fire Department), the front door at 200 Southford Road (Police Department) and at 1 Service Road (Public Works).

Fire Chief Brett Kales advises the number and size of the vehicles in the parade will determine the parade route, so he is encouraging residents to go to a location along the route to watch and support their favorite department. The parade route will be posted later today, and we will share it as soon as we have it.
