Father of Sandra Carbonari Welsh
Albert Francis Carbonari of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Woodbridge, Conn., died peacefully at his home on May 9, 2018.
He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Edith Ardolino Carbonari, his sister Albertina Arcucci, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
He was born in West Haven, Conn., Feb. 13, 1926 to Italian immigrants Claudina (Montesi) and Francesco Carbonari.
Albert served in the U.S. Army’s Fighting 69th Infantry Division in World War II, the first U.S. Division to meet the Soviet 58th Guards in Torgau, Germany on April 25, 1945. He was decorated with the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge for his service in the European theater and the Ardennes Counteroffensive (Battle of the Bulge). He attended college on the G.I. Bill at what is now Quinnipiac University and received a degree in accounting.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a devoted husband and a loyal friend. He loved to entertain and cook for all of his family and friends. He was an avid sports enthusiast, gin player and world traveler.
Albert was a successful businessman and entrepreneur in manufacturing. He was active in multiple service organizations including the Lions Club, the Exchange Club, Post Polio Group and Knights of Columbus. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Boca Raton.
He is survived by his children: Claudia Carbonari and her husband, Douglas Monty, of Glastonbury, Conn.; Sandra Carbonari Welsh and her husband, David Welsh, of Middlebury, Conn.; and Bruce Albert Carbonari and his wife, Kathryn, of Boca Grande, Fla. and Chicago, Ill.; his grandchildren, James Monty-Carbonari; Jonathan Monty-Carbonari and his wife, Penny, and their son, Dominic Albert; Katherine Welsh; 1st Lt. David B. Welsh and his wife, Meredith; Nicole Carbonari; Danielle Carbonari; and his sister-in-law, Isobel Ardolino, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held in Florida at our Lady of Lourdes Church at 22094 Lyons Road in Boca Raton Monday, May 28, at 11 a.m. followed by a U.S. Army honors ceremony at South Florida National Veterans Cemetery.
In Connecticut, a memorial service will be held at Holy Infant Church at 450 Racebrook Road in Orange, Conn. Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m.
