Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother

ZINNO, ELIZABETHMrs. Elizabeth R. “Betty” (Ryan) Zinno, 69, of Middlebury passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family after a five-year courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of John A. Zinno Sr.

Betty was born in Waterbury Oct. 24, 1944, a daughter of the late Raymond and Betty (Dimock) Ryan. She graduated from Crosby High School. She was a proud homemaker who raised three children. She worked in sales at Good Friends and Treasures in Middlebury for many years until her retirement in 2006. Her greatest pleasure in life was her grandchildren. She loved decorating her home for holidays and different seasons, and she enjoyed her collection of “Betty Boop” memorabilia. She had a passion for gardening and caring for her plants.

Besides her husband, John, of 48 years, she leaves two sons, John A. Zinno Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Middlebury and Dean C. Zinno and his wife, Heather, of Waterbury; a daughter, Dayna Vitale and her husband, A.J., of Watertown; two brothers, Raymond Ryan Jr. and his wife, Joanne, of Naugatuck and Thomas Ryan of Waterbury; a sister, Kathy Grieser and her husband, Jack, of Southington; four grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Olivia and Jake Zinno and Alana and Anthony Vitale; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be Monday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at New Saint Joseph Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours will be Sunday, Oct. 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Trager and Dr. Joseph Bowen and their staff and Seasons Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Betty and her family during her illness.
