Middlebury budgets pass; mil rate set

Middlebury’s general fund (municipal) and capital expenses budgets were approved at the polls May 22. After the polls closed, a new mil rate, 32.6, was set at a joint meeting of the Board of Finance and the Board of Selectmen. The new mil rate is .34 higher than the current 32.26 mil rate.

The general fund (municipal) budget passed with 311 votes for it and 229 against it. The capital expenses budget passed with 304 votes for it and 233 votes against it. A total of 520 votes were cast by machine and 20 votes were cast by absentee ballots.
