DG Market is coming to Middlebury

With Dinova’s Four Corners Grocery Store permanently closing, rumors began circulating on Facebook that Dollar General would be moving into the location. Turns out the rumors were true, with a slight variation. A DG Market will occupy the space, not the ubiquitous Dollar General store most of us know. This morning’s area daily reported that Joe Dinova told them he planned to lease the store to Dollar General Market.

The Dollar General website says, “Dollar General Market and DG Market formats offer expanded produce, refrigerated and frozen food offerings, dairy products and more, in addition to an assortment of fresh meats, alongside the general merchandise customers trust Dollar General to provide.”

The only CT store to come up in our online search for DG Markets is in Essex. It opened this past February.

The website bestlifeonline.com, in a June 18, 2023, article by Kali Coleman, posed the question, “Can you do all your regular grocery shopping at this Dollar Store chain instead?” In their article, they said, “Alex Bitter, a senior retailer reporter for Insider, detailed his first visit to a DG Market in a May 2023 article.” They said he concluded he would go to a DG Market “if it was the only choice he had” and said he wrote, “I could scrape together a week’s worth of groceries here, but I’d need to rely heavily on canned and other shelf-stable foods.”
