The stone wall on the west side of Westover took a direct hit from a vehicle at 1:55 a.m. on February 11, knocking loose a number of rocks. The vehicle, headed eastbound on Whittemore Road, failed to negotiate the curve by St. John of the Cross Church, instead veering to the right. It then went across the island and South Street before hitting the wall.

The driver, Valon Emini, 28, of Waterbury told police he was traveling too fast and could not negotiate the curve. As a result, the car, a black 2011 Mercedes-Benz E350 veered off the road. It sustained major damage and its airbags deployed. Emini complained of pain in his right ankle and was transported by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital. He was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
