Mr. Louis N. Orsini, 83, of Middlebury passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital.

Born on Sept. 27, 1939, Lou was the son of the late Nicholas and Lucy (Laudate) Orsini. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and a proud U.S. Army veteran, where he excelled on the U.S. Army Wrestling Team. He worked in sales for Mark Industries and was a longtime member and volunteer for the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed building and collecting classic cars. A foodie at heart, Lou loved to travel and sample the local cuisine. He was an avid landscaper who loved working in his yard and tending to his koi pond.

Artistic and creative, Lou was a talented cartoon artist and, while in school, painted murals in the hallways of Leavenworth. Coupled with his creativity, Lou was a skilled carpenter who designed and built dollhouses, playhouses and a lemonade stand for his beloved granddaughters.

A man of great tenacity and resilience, Lou lived a full life. He was always the voice of encouragement, and there was never a task or project that Lou would not attempt. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and was happiest surrounded by his family.

In addition to Mary, his beloved wife of 58 years, Lou is survived by his son Christopher Orsini and his wife, Linda; his daughter Lisa Murray and her husband, John; and his four granddaughters, Casey Rose Orsini, Allison Rose Orsini, Morgan Elizabeth Murray, and Sydney Ann Murray, all of Middlebury.

He also leaves his brother-in-law William Walsh and his sister-in-law Mary Walsh; as well as his nieces and nephew, Louis Gammon, Sharon Gammon, and Nancy Flemming.

He was predeceased by his sister, Joann M. Gammon.

The Orsini family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of VITAS Healthcare in Saint Mary’s Hospital for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided.

Lou’s funeral Mass will be Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church at 1263 West St. in Middlebury. A calling hour will be on Monday morning at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be immediately following Mass in Lake Elise Cemetery in Middlebury.
