Middlebury Police responding to a two-vehicle accident on Middlebury Road Wednesday, March 29, at 5:20 p.m. found both vehicles inoperable. The drivers, Jessica Longo, 37, of White Avenue in Middlebury and Daniel Soto, 19, of Porter Avenue in Middlebury were traveling westbound when Longo’s vehicle struck Soto’s vehicle from behind. Both drivers were issued citations.

A witness told the investigating officer, Patrolman Randy Guisto, he had been traveling behind both drivers since they exited I-84 at Exit 17. He said as they continued westbound Soto was operating his vehicle erratically by slowing and stopping directly in front of Longo’s vehicle, possibly in an attempt to have Longo hit his vehicle from behind. The witness saw the collision and reported he believed Soto slammed on his brakes suddenly, causing Longo to strike the rear of his vehicle. The witness said he believed Soto acted intentionally.

Longo told Guisto that Soto had been operating erratically once they got on Middlebury Road, slowing and stopping suddenly in front of her. She said just west of the intersection with Steinmann Road, Soto stopped so quickly she was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of his vehicle.

Soto told Guisto he had slowed to pull into a commercial driveway when Longo struck him from behind.

No injuries were reported and both drivers refused medical treatment. Both vehicles were damaged and inoperable, so they were towed from the scene.

Longo was issued an infraction for following too closely (14-240). Soto was issued a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving (14-222).
