Today is the 10th anniversary of the heartbreaking tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Residents in Middlebury and surrounding towns are so close to Newtown that the tragedy was perhaps more personal to us than to those living farther away. We worked in Newtown or had friends who did. Perhaps we once lived in Newtown. Many of us knew one of the victims. We think of that day’s losses often, but perhaps they hit us hardest each year on the anniversary of that tragic event. Today we hold in our hearts all those who lost their lives and the families who grieve for them. We also hold in our hearts all the first responders and the survivors.
