Loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend

Nicole D. Gabelman, 32, of Middlebury, was taken away from us too soon on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in East Hartford. She was the only daughter of Karl Gabelman of Bethel and Linda Gabelman of Middlebury.

Nicole came into this world with her twin brother Eric in Derby, Connecticut, on February 4, 1990. She graduated from Pomperaug High School Class of 2008. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in biological science from the University of Connecticut (UCONN). After college graduation she began her career at UCONN holding many job titles. Initially, she worked hands-on in research of invasive plant species and most recently was promoted to working as an administrative program support. Nicole was loved and admired by all of her co-workers.

Nicole was a beautiful, smart, witty and compassionate woman. She loved her plants and watching hummingbirds. She was a wonderful writer, was artistic and always took the time to make her own inspirational greeting cards. She loved reading, playing darts, pool, cornhole, puzzles and cooking. She enjoyed attending sporting events including her favorite teams, UCONN basketball, NY Giants, and NY Mets alongside family. During the holidays, Nicole delighted her family with her culinary skills, busily preparing food and beverages to keep up with her family and friends’ appetites. This year, Nicole became a proud dog-mom of her rescued German Shepherd mix, Zach. The two quickly formed an exceptional bond and Zach never left her side.

Besides her parents Linda and Karl (Susan Conway), she leaves to honor and cherish her memory three brothers, Keith Gabelman of Middlebury, her twin brother Eric Gabelman of Waterbury, and Drew Gabelman of Middlebury; her dog, Zach; several aunts and uncles, John and Linda Romanello, Cathy and Kerry McCabe, Patrick and Diane Cullinan, and Michael and Mary Cullinan; and her cousins, Sheri and Brennon Owens, Patrick Jr. and Jessi Cullinan, Allison Cullinan and Sean McCabe. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Michael and Catherine Cullinan and George Gabelman.

Calling hours for Nicole will be Wednesday November 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home and Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury. There will be a brief prayer service and eulogy to close the calling hours at the funeral home.
