Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother

Kathleen (Gorman) Flisher, 96, of Middlebury, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. She was the widow of Kenneth W. Flisher.

Kathleen (Kay) was born August 11, 1923, in Middlebury, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Riley) Gorman. Kathleen was a life-long resident of Middlebury and a devoted communicant of St. John of the Cross Parish. She was an active member of the Altar Society, often making sandwiches for the poor every Friday. She was actively involved in community activities and worked for every election held in Middlebury. Prior to her retirement, she worked for The Eastern Company in Naugatuck, Connecticut.

Kay loved her summers, vacationing at Point O’ Wood, Old Lyme, Connecticut, and Grafton, Vermont. She was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and UConn Women’s Basketball team. She never missed a game and was often upset if her cable company didn’t carry every game.

But her greatest love was to be with her family, especially her deeply cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All of them have wonderful memories of summers at the cottage and holidays with all the family traditions. Grammy could be seen skipping with a granddaughter on the way to the beach, cheering loudly at a field hockey, volleyball or basketball game or applauding the musical talents of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children, Kathryn Rahn of Cheshire; Kristine Geddes and her husband, William, of Woodbury; Karen Craig of Wolcott; Kenneth W. Flisher Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, of Middlebury; her 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sister, Mary Welch, and son-in-law, Edward Rahn.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced. The Murphy Funeral Home of Waterbury, Connecticut is in charge of the arrangements.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Kathleen’s memory to St. John of the Cross Church, 1321 Whittemore Road, Middlebury CT.
