In December, Police Chief Fran Dabbo said at about 12:10 p.m. the day of robbery, Sgt. Pat Deely and Officers Alton Cronin, George Slaiby and Ron Hunt responded to a report of a bank robbery at the Thomaston Savings Bank at 1655 Straits Turnpike in Middlebury.

Witnesses reported that a white male approximately 6′ tall and wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, a black scarf over his face and large rectangular sunglasses was standing in the lobby of the bank. The unknown male was told by a bank employee to remove his hood. The male pointed a black handgun at one of the tellers and started yelling “Give me your money. I want all of your money” to one of them.

The teller gave him some money that was placed into a green back pack. He was waving the handgun around while he demanded more money. A second teller gave him more money, which also was placed into the back pack.

He fled the bank in a blue Honda Civic sedan. An internal audit by bank personnel determined that he escaped with $1,262.
