For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, Sarah E. Kwashnak from Troop 64146 created a nature trail across from Memorial Middle School in Middlebury. Teachers can incorporate the trail into their lessons, especially the biology teacher, Mrs. Susan Johnson. Due to its location, the trail can be used to support classroom lessons without the need for funds to transport students elsewhere. The trail is short and features markers for several varieties of plants, such as poison ivy, sensitive fern, Christmas fern, and spice bush, among others, providing an ideal location for quick local outings with an educational outcome.
