The popular Middlebury Police Social Club Annual Clambake has moved to the Grand Oak Pavilion on Sylvan Lake Road in Oakville. The 38th Annual Clambake will be Friday, Sept. 21, starting at 6 p.m.

The rain-or-shine event, a fundraiser for projects like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, offers clams on the half shell, in chowder and steamed along with corn on the cob and sofritto. Those who aren’t clam enthusiasts have other choices, including roast beef, hot dogs, and hamburgers.

This year’s clambake honors the memory of retired Woodbury Police Officer Thomas M. Story, who passed away from illness in December 2016. His obituary said “during his years he received recognition for meritorious service and a stork pin for assisting in the delivery of a baby.”

Middlebury Assessor Chris Kelsey was Story’s neighbor and remembers him as a great guy. He said, “He was the patriarch of the neighborhood and we are all better people for it.”

Kelsey said after he retired Story went on to become president of the Blue Knights, an international law enforcement motorcycle club. He also served as president of the Woodbury Lions and was active with the Bethlehem Lions. Kelsey said, “He also loved this clambake, and dragged any of us that would say ‘yes’ (to it) every year.”

Tickets at $40 each are available at Parks & Rec, 203-758-2520.
