Beloved wife, mother and grandmother
Mrs. Antoinette “Toni” (Criscitiello) Borkowski, 70, of Middlebury, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018. She was the loving wife of Henry Borkowski M.D.
Toni was born in Newark, N.J., Oct. 5, 1947, a daughter of Thomas Criscitiello of Newark, N.J., and the late Margaret (Pagano) Criscitiello. She and her husband moved from New Jersey to Branford in 1975, settling in Middlebury in 1977. In her younger years she was a professional singer performing in nightclubs until she became a devoted and caring mother. She loved music, singing and dance and enjoyed every performance at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury. She was a great Italian cook herself and enjoyed fine dining at the best restaurants in the United States.
The love of her life was her family: her sons, Cara, her beloved granddaughter Riley, her brothers and sisters, and all of her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was blessed with close friends who showed her special kindness and support during her lengthy illness.
Besides her husband of 49 years, Dr. Henry Borkowski, and her father, she leaves three sons; Michael Borkowski and David Borkowski of Miami, Fla. and Jeff Borkowski and his wife, Cara, of North Reading, Mass.; a granddaughter, Riley Borkowski of North Reading, Mass.; three siblings: Thomas Criscitiello and his wife, Mirella, of Cranford, N.J.; Denise Grill and her husband, Thomas, of Clark, N.J.; and Gina D’Alessio of Belleville, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Jan Criscitiello of Cedar Grove, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Criscitiello.
On behalf of his wife, Dr. Borkowski and his family want to sincerely thank Dr. Jega and Dr. Kanthi Jega, Dr. Joseph Bowen, Dr. Elizabeth Mirabile-Levens, Dr. Stephen C. Widman, Dr. Arslan Johnghar, Dr. Marc Ciampi, Dr. Anthony Kim, Dr. Peter Greco, Dr. Akua Sam, Dr. Leor Zedek, Dr. Ionut Anton, the entire nursing staff in the Waterbury Hospital CVU and Telemetry for the extraordinary care they provided Toni in her time of need.
The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury to St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held Friday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
