Driver safety program

The next AARP Driver Safety Course will be Monday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior center. The course is the nation’s first and largest driver-refresher course. Drivers who attend the class will receive a completion certificate and may be entitled to a discount on automobile insurance (contact your insurance company for details).

AARP membership is not required, and drivers of all ages are invited to attend. The cost to participate is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. All checks must be made out to “AARP.” Call 203-577-4166 to register.

Free blood pressure check

Drop by the senior center and get your blood pressure checked by a nurse every Tuesday between 10 a.m. and noon. No appointment is needed.

Hollywood film and talk

Thursday, July 12, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Tom Rosa will show and discuss the 1949 movie, “House of Strangers,” starring Edward G. Robinson, Susan Hayward and Richard Conte and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. It is based on the novel by Jerome Weidman.

After years in prison, Max promises revenge on his brothers for their betrayal. His lover, Irene, and memories of his past yield him a broader perspective. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
