Eversource customers can receive a $3,000 rebate for buying an electric car and also can expect to pay lower summer standard service generation rates. To promote a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and to help its customers save money on zero-emission electric vehicles, Eversource joined Nissan in a limited-time, exclusive offer. Now through July 2, Eversource customers can receive a $3,000 rebate off the MSRP of a 2018 Nissan LEAF.

“We want to help customers have access to the best local deals available on new zero-emission vehicles,” said Eversource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Penni Conner. “We’re excited about the future of electric vehicles and to be doing our part to assist New England in achieving its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. We’re committed to saving our customers money and protecting our planet.”

The 2018 Nissan LEAF has up to a 150-mile range and has a lower starting MSRP than the 2017 model. Each new LEAF can plug in to a standard, 120-volt residential outlet, or there’s an available 120/240-volt cord for faster charging. The proposed supply prices for the second half of 2018 that Eversource submitted to the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) will give customers in Connecticut who are signed up for the company’s Standard Service generation rate a decrease on their electric bill beginning July 1. PURA approved the new residential Generation Service Charge (GSC) of 8.530 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), down from the current 9.078 cents per kWh. This is a direct pass-through cost to customers for the price of power generation, with no profit to the company.

“We’re pleased to pass along these lower energy costs to our customers and remind them they can save even more by taking advantage of our energy efficiency programs,” said Eversource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Penni Conner.

The new generation rate will be in effect from July 1 to Dec. 31. The average residential customer using 700 kilowatt hours of electricity each month will see a decrease of approximately $3.84 per month on the supply portion of their bill. Each customer’s total bill depends on how much energy they use, their rate category, and weather conditions.

Utilities like Eversource bid twice a year for power supplies, award contracts to low bidders, and pass along the costs to customers without marking them up. The Standard Service price changes on Jan. 1 and July 1. Eversource customers have the option to buy their power from other retail suppliers or go with the company’s Standard Service rate.
