Veterans, first responders, and their families can attend complimentary yoga classes every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. until July 4 at Woodbury Meditation and Yoga Center at 122 West Side Road in Woodbury. Sean Weir, a veteran and retired first responder, teaches the class.

“Yoga and meditation are proven tools for managing stress and strengthening our bodies ability to heal.” Director Janaki Pierson said. “As an expression of our gratitude for their service and as part of continuing community support, Woodbury Meditation and Yoga Center’s outreach to veterans, first responders and their families is to insure they have full access to these tools and benefits.”

Instructor Weir served in both the United Kingdom and United States career fire services. He was a career firefighter in both the Royal Air Force and Greater Manchester Fire Services. He is certified as both a Florida and Connecticut firefighter as well as a Connecticut Fire Officer / Instructor and EMT. After retiring from the West Haven Fire Department, Weir transitioned to serving his fellow responder community in Connecticut.

Weir is particularly interested in mind-body practices that combine the benefits of Eastern wisdom with Western evidence-based research. Having completed Mindful Yoga Therapy, Prison Yoga Project, Yoga for Recovery and 108 Monkeys Yoga for urban youth and underserved communities teacher trainings, Weir is particularly grateful for each opportunity to share these practices with others.

In addition to the free yoga classes, the center offers ongoing discounts and partial or full scholarships to veterans and their families for any yoga or meditation classes or other events at the yoga center. For more information, call 203-263-2254.
