The Middlebury Lions Club will present “Bears and other wildlife in Middlebury” Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at Shepardson Community Center. Long-time Middlebury Animal Control Officer Rusty Bona will talk about his first-hand experiences with bears roaming around the local area.

Bona has responded to increasing neighborhood sightings of black bear families and seen the mischief they sometimes cause to bird feeders and garbage cans. Although such bears are usually harmless, he cautions residents not to get them habituated to humans by intentionally or unintentionally feeding them.

Bona’s talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session that may get quite lively. The talk is open to the public and appropriate for all ages. Refreshments will be served.

There is no charge for admission, but attendees are asked to call 203-758-1309 by March 27 to assure a seat. Shepardson Community Center is at 1172 Whittemore Road in Middlebury.
