Helen H. Waldron, M.Ed., educational therapist, principal for Waldron Education LLC and admissions director at Oxford Academy, will present “Smart but Scattered? Helping Your Child Reach Their Full Educational Potential” Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at Gunn Memorial Library in Washington, CT.

Many gifted learners meet with difficulties such as planning, organizing, time management and emotional control. They lose important school work, are known for “dawdling” and just can’t seem to keep their act together. Recent research shows that these highly intelligent, often misunderstood students have the brain and desire to succeed but may lack or lag behind in crucial “executive function skills” – the fundamental neurodevelopment habits of the mind required for getting organized, staying focused, and controlling impulses and emotions.

Participants will learn about strategies for various executive function challenges. They will be introduced to easy-to-follow steps to identify the child’s strengths and weaknesses, explore activities and techniques proven to boost specific skills and problem solve daily routines. Small changes can add up to big improvements.

For over 30 years, Waldron has worked with students to strengthen their learning ability and with parents to make educational plans. Since 1992, she has provided extensive faculty professional development for independent school faculty and learning specialists throughout New England and in New York, Los Angeles and Hamilton, Bermuda.

This program is free and open to the public but registration is requested. Please call 860-868-7586 for more information or visit www.gunnlibrary.org. The Gunn Memorial Library is at 5 Wykeham Road at Route 47 on the Green in Washington, Conn.
