DAR fundraiser May 11

The Trumbull-Porter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) scholarship and awards fundraiser Thursday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church at 40 DeForest St. in Watertown, Conn., will feature Velya Jancz-Urban and will include a light supper and a tea-cup auction for gift baskets. Jancz-Urban will present “The Not-So-Good Life of the Colonial Goodwife.” This interesting and informative interactive program is a lot of fun. Jancz-Urban is a teacher, author, former Brazilian dairy farm owner and an expert on New England’s Colonial women

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., a light supper will be served at 6 p.m., and the program will start after the meal. All proceeds from the event will go to the Trumbull-Porter Scholarship and Awards Fund, which will award two chapter scholarships to area high school seniors.

The chapter also presents the DAR Good Citizens Award and the DAR Outstanding Student of American History Award to seniors from 13 area high schools and two Junior ROTC Awards to Junior ROTC cadets from Naugatuck and Crosby High Schools.

Checks should be made payable to Trumbull-Porter Chapter DAR and mailed to Carol Bauby, 133 Orchard Hill Road, Harwinton, CT 06791. Your donation includes your reservation, a light supper, the program and the opportunity to take part in the tea-cup auction.
