Middlebury Police Chief Fran Dabbo said over the past three weeks the Middlebury Police Department has received several complaints of victims having their credit/debit cards fraudulently accessed and unauthorized purchases or withdrawals being made. He said it appears the thieves are highly sophisticated and well equipped.

Most of the victims discovered the unauthorized transactions when they received their statements or conducted business at their banks. It appears debit cards are more at risk than credit cards.

The Middlebury Police Department is working with several organizations in an attempt to stop these thefts. Individuals who discover their cards have been used without authorization are asked to immediately contact the police in the town where the theft took place.
