Luminaria bags are customarily placed along driveways and walkways at dusk on Christmas Eve and can also be a fun addition to your New Year’s Eve celebration. The white glowing bags are simple to set up. When you place about an inch of sand (available at the transfer station) in the bottom of the bags, center the candles in the sand and light the candles at dusk, the result is a row of white, glowing bags along your driveway or walkway.

For $6 a dozen you receive a package of 12 white bags and 12 10-hour candles. They are on sale at Sullivan’s Jewelers, Larry’s Wine and Spirits and Vaszauskas Farm, all located on Route 64, and also at the Middlebury Parks and Rec Department at Shepardson Community Center. Please support the Lions along with their local business partners.

The Lions Club, which usually offers one new ornament a year, has brought back three of its most popular and sold-out hand-painted holiday ornaments this year. The Middlebury Memories collection comprises the ever-popular Johnny’s Dairy Bar, Skating on Fenn’s Pond and Sledding on Shepardson Hill.

Ornaments with a ribbon for hanging are $20 each or $25 with a table stand. All three ornaments can be bought for a discount package price of $55 and $70, respectively. They were produced by Hestia Creations of Marblehead, Mass., in hand-painted Acrylic.

Buy ornaments at Sullivan’s Jewelers, Larry’s Wine and Spirits, the Middlebury Tax Collector’s Office at Town Hall and at the Parks and Recreation Department in Shepardson Community Center.
