Middlebury woman charged in knife attack

Middlebury Police Chief Fran Dabbo said in a press release today that a Regan Road resident called police at about 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, to say his wife stabbed him. He also said she had fled the home, but no motor vehicle information was available at the time.

The Connecticut State Police and Naugatuck Police were dispatched to assist Middlebury officers. Police entered the home and spoke to the male victim. He said he and his wife had a verbal argument, and she stabbed him in the neck with a kitchen knife. The victim had a small laceration on the left side of his neck.

The victim said he and his wife, Sharon Brunetti, 53, were drinking when they started to argue. The victim stated that, sometime during the argument, his wife picked up a steak knife and came at him. He said that is when he sustained the laceration to his neck. The victim stated there was a brief struggle, and he was able to take the knife away from her, She then fled the house.

The victim was treated at the scene by Middlebury Ambulance staff. He refused any further medical treatment.

A short time later, Connecticut State Police apprehended Brunetti in Waterbury. She was transported to Middlebury Police Department, where she was charged with third-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief. She was released on a $5,000. bond for a court appearance at Waterbury Superior Court today, Monday, Oct. 24.
