Middlebury police make narcotics arrest

Middlebury’s Acting Police Chief Fran Dabbo reports officers made a narcotics arrest Friday, May 27. Dabbo said at about 11:41 a.m. Friday, Officer Al Cronin observed a red Toyota approaching in the area of Park Road Extension. Cronin recognized the Toyota from past investigations.

He saw two white males sitting in the front seats and, as the driver was slowing down to drive past the officer, the driver began to shuffle around in his seat. Cronin recognized the operator as Curtiss Cykley of Yale Avenue in Middlebury. Cronin knows both individuals who were in the car from past investigations.

The officer knew there might be an outstanding warrant for Cykley, so he checked with dispatch and they confirmed there was an outstanding warrant charging Cykley for Failure to Appear. Officer Cronin then had Officer Paul Pelletier, who also was in the area, stop the Toyota.

Cykley was placed under arrest pursuant to the outstanding warrant. During a search, the following items were discovered and seized: A white paper fold containing pieces of a small white rock substance that later tested positive for cocaine and weighed 1.3 grams, and a small glass smoking pipe.

In addition to the outstanding warrant, Cykley was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine within 1500 feet of a school, and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. He was held on bond until his court appearance Tuesday, May 31.
