DEEP seeks bear killer

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is asking anyone with information on the person or people who killed a black bear on Roxbury, Conn., conservation land to contact the department at 860-424-3333.

Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at about 8 a.m. people began calling Roxbury Town Hall to report a dead black bear on Roxbury Land Trust property adjacent to Upper County Road. DEEP officers were dispatched to the area to investigate the suspicious incident.

The carcass was located and removed for further investigation. On Thursday, May 19, 2016, a necropsy was performed with the assistance of the Wildlife Division to determine the cause and nature of death. Following the necropsy, the State EnCon Police announced they are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible for killing the adult male black bear.
