St. John, Strobel, McCormack get most votes

#Middlebury’s incumbent First Selectman Edward B. St. John won 1,230 votes Nov. 3 while incumbent Selectman Elaine Strobel garnered 1,227 votes. First selectman candidate Michael McCormack came away with 941 votes, not enough to win the top spot, but compared to incumbent Selectman Ralph Barra’s 899 votes, it was enough to earn him a spot as a selectman. This would give Middlebury St. John, Strobel and McCormack for its board of selectmen.

This lineup is possible due to election laws that say a first selectman candidate with too few votes to be first selectman but with more votes than another selectman candidate wins the selectman position. Asked if he was willing to serve on the Board of Selectmen as a selectman rather than first selectman, McCormack said he was not going to make a decision the night of the election. “I’m going to wait until after the next Board of Finance meeting before I make up my mind,” McCormack said. The next Board of Finance meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015.
