Fred Duverger of Middlebury was sworn in as a Middlebury police officer Friday, Oct. 9, during a special session of the Middlebury Police Commission. Duverger will assume duties as a part-time officer augmenting the department’s full-time staff.

Duverger recently retired from the Waterbury Police Department after serving there for 20 years. He also is a veteran of the armed services. His last assignment was as a detective assigned to the Detective Division.

Middlebury Police Chief James Viadero said Officer Duverger is a welcome addition to the agency, and his investigative experience will most certainly be an asset to the department. During the next several weeks he will undergo an orientation period with members of the department to familiarize him with department operations.
