Middlebury Police arrested Barry Murphy, 53, of 787 South St. and charged him with crimes related to growing marijuana inside and outside. During execution of a search warrant at the South Street address, officers seized more than 2 pounds of marijuana, records and bank assets at what they described as “a sophisticated marijuana cultivation factory.”

They charged Murphy with sale of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and other related charges. Murphy was being held on a $5,000 bond and will appear in Waterbury Court.

His arrest is a result of an ongoing investigation initiated by Officer Al Cronin of the Middlebury Police Department. The department was assisted by the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, Adult Probation Waterbury Office and other agencies. The State Police aviation unit also assisted by providing a helicopter during execution of the search warrant.

Middlebury Police Chief James Viadero said this is an excellent example of cooperation in law enforcement resulting in a significant seizure.
