Girl Scout Gabriella Brozak of Middlebury, a member of Troop 64504, recently delivered 96 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brett Kales and Middlebury Police Officer Giovanni Guerrera. Each department received 48 boxes of cookies.

Gabriella started a fundraiser for the cookies when her grandparents, Middlebury residents Warren and Linda Richardson, decided instead of purchasing cookies for themselves they’d like to give back. They offered to donate 20 boxes of cookies to her for heroes of her choice in return for her trying to get others to contribute.

Gabriella chose as her heroes the Middlebury Fire and Police departments because they played such a big part in lifting the spirits of everyone in town during the COVID-19 pandemic. They put together numerous parades through town, birthday party surprises and even brought cheer with Santa at Christmas.

In January, she posted a video with news of her fundraiser on her mom’s Facebook page and on the Middlebury neighborhood page, and the orders started coming in. She inspired others to follow her lead; a woman in New York did the same for her brother’s police department.

Gabriella ended up with orders for 96 boxes of cookies, which she proudly delivered. When she made the delivery, Chief Kales and Officer Guerrera treated her and her little brother, Ethan, to a ride in a fire truck and a chance to use the siren in the patrol car.

In a final video, Gabriella thanked those in our community and afar who contributed to making her fundraiser a success. She also thanked Kales and Guerrera for all they do for the community.
