This weekend features two popular events, the 39th Annual Middlebury Police Social Club Clambake tonight, Friday, Sept. 20, and Celebrate Middlebury tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 21.

The clambake starts at 6 p.m. tonight at the Grand Oak Pavilion on Sylvan Lake Road in Oakville. The rain or shine event is a fundraiser for projects like the annual Easter Egg Hunt. It offers clams on the half shell, in chowder and steamed along with corn on the cob and sofritto. Those who aren’t clam enthusiasts have other choices, including roast beef, hot dogs, and hamburgers.

This year’s clambake honors the memories of Walt Ahearn and Jimmy Shepard. Pick up a $40 all-you-can-eat ticket at the Parks and Rec Department today between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., attend the free “Celebrate Middlebury” event on the Shepardson Community Center field at 1172 Whittemore Road in Middlebury. It will feature the latest in food and festival trends with Middlebury restaurants, small business and community organization activities such as information tables and crafts and small games and giveaways, live music for the whole family, locally sourced handicrafts for sale, and much more. Participants will have plenty of time to visit with neighbors, learn about local businesses, dance along with friends to a live band and sample the wares of local restaurant vendors.

An area of the field will be designated “Best Tastes of Middlebury,” and will have Middlebury restaurants grouped together with tables and benches nearby. If you’ve been wondering how the food tastes at Cavallo’s Deli, Kitchen 64, Krispy Krunchy Chicken (Sunoco), Meet Me Here, Pies & Pints, Rita’s Italian Ice or Senor Pancho’s of Middlebury, don’t miss the chance to purchase some at the event.

Brass City Rescue Alliance will be set up in the air-conditioned North Shore Animal League van from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will bring all their available rescue dogs. Those interested in adopting at “Celebrate Middlebury” can fill out an adoption application online for pre-approval at www.adoptapet.com/bcra/adoption-application. Please state you will be attending the event so your application will be ready.
