Chaplinski, Rebecca-DPRebecca J. (Howes) Chaplinski, 44, of Bristol, beloved wife of 20 years to Scott M. Chaplinski, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at Bristol Hospital, after a short, courageous battle with melanoma.

Becky was born in Hartford April 29, 1971, and was the daughter of Hilman Howes of Davenport, Fla., and the late Carol (Beattie) Howes. Raised in Burlington, she graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School in 1989 and then attended Keene State College. She received her master’s degree in elementary education from Central Connecticut State University and was currently teaching kindergarten at Middlebury Elementary School.

She loved teaching her kindergarten class and enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping with her “aunties,” and playing cards. She was an active parishioner of St. Gregory Church in Bristol.

In addition to her husband and her father, Becky leaves her two beloved sons, Jordan and Ethan; her brother and sister-in-law: Todd and Erica Howes, and nephews C.J. and Luke Howes of Southington; her maternal grandfather, Donald J.J. Beattie of Unionville; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Charlene Chaplinski of Bristol; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Ida Chaplinski, and nieces Iliana and Sierra Chaplinski of Bristol; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her beloved pup, Daisy.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Yale Smilow Cancer Hospital and Bristol Hospital Hospice Care Center for their excellent care of Becky. Also a thank you to family, friends, and Middlebury Elementary School teachers and staff for the support, prayers, and thoughts received throughout Becky’s journey.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at 9 a.m. from Funk Funeral Home at 35 Bellevue Ave. in Bristol to St. Gregory Church at 235 Maltby St. in Bristol for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home Monday, Feb. 29, between 4 and 8 p.m.
