Corinne Fabian of Middlebury began making her dream of opening a wellness center a reality last fall. That’s when she bought an office condo at Pomperaug Office Park in Southbury and began remodeling the interior. “I wanted to create a space enveloped in love,” Fabian said. “I wanted it to be beautiful aesthetically and to be more like a home than an office.”

Plans were to have a grand opening in April. In mid-March, the state ordered many businesses to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents were asked to “Stay Safe, Stay Home,” leaving their homes only for essentials such as groceries.

Most businesses closed down completely; some were allowed to continue to operate and some could offer limited services such as pickup and delivery. But where did that leave Natur Holistic Wellness Center, a business on the verge of opening?

The Center’s services, explained in detail on the website, naturholistics.com, are Reiki (for adults and children), HeartMath, Tong Ren and Angel Therapy. They focus on healing and energy work, and it turns out most lend themselves to distance healing.

Fabian, an Intuitive Energy Healer, said while she prefers to do energy work in person, any type of energy work can be done distantly. “Sometimes people are too ill to travel,” she said.

Distance healing is available via telephone, Facetime or Skype for clients who may not wish to or be able to visit the wellness center right now. It’s also something Fabian was offering before she started working on the new center. “You get clients who are far away when you do this type of work,” she said. “Your clients don’t have to be physically present.”

She offers her services to adults and to children, and the first session is free. Get a feel for the center by browsing through the photos at www.facebook.com/Naturholistics. In addition to the large room shown in the photo here, the center has a Reiki room and a conference room used for coaching. Beanbag chairs offer comfortable seating for children. Shungite jewelry and wellness products are available.

Fabian said she has felt a need to heal things since she was a little girl. Then she would bring home injured animals and help them heal.

Her childhood desire to help others heal was rekindled in 2010 when aggressive treatment for an illness cured the disease but left her body needing to heal from the treatment. “You go through treatment and then you’re left alone,” she said. “You’ve been through a lot of trauma. It’s not like you walk away from it and you’re all good.”

The services she now offers to others are services she found helped her when she was searching for a holistic way to heal herself. She said she opened the center because she wants to help others who are in a similar situation.

Energy healing also is helpful for those dealing with the anxiety and stress caused by the current pandemic. “Energy work is very relaxing and creates peace in the body,” Fabian said. “It calms your anxiety and helps you deal with your fears.”

She said she would entertain the idea of in-person energy work and coaching sessions at the center. She also is working on videotaping seminars to offer online. Seminar topics would include how to ride through a storm like the current pandemic, be mindful and live in the present moment. The original plan, now delayed for who knows how long, was to offer seminars in the large reception area. “When you open a healing center,” Fabian said, “the intention is for the community to use it.”
