State Police report holiday weekend stats

The Connecticut State Police have supplemented the normal patrol force throughout New Year’s weekend for a period that began Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at 12:01 a.m. and will conclude today, Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. Their focus has been on enforcing all motor vehicle laws and reducing the number of DUIs, crashes and injury-producing accidents on interstates, state roads and local roadways.

As of 7:30 a.m. today, State Police reported the following stats:

SPEEDING violations: 490 compared to 705 for the entire period last year.

SEATBELT violations: 17 compared to 15 for the entire period last year.

All moving violations: 1,169 (to include unsafe lane change, following too closely, cell phone usage, texting, failure to signal, etc.) compared to 1,800 for the entire period last year.

DUI arrests: 23 compared to 34 for the entire period last year.

ACCIDENTS investigated: 419 — w/injury: 46 — fatality: 2 compared to last year’s entire period of 276 accidents, 34 with injury and 2 with 3 fatalities.

Motorist Assists: 397 compared to 270 for the entire period last year.

Total calls for service: 5,676 compared to 6,987 for the entire period last year.

We expect a report on this year’s entire period Tuesday morning.
