For Veterans Day 2017, Quilts that Care (QTC) delivered 30 patriotic quilts to men and women veterans at the West Haven Veterans Hospital as they were sitting undergoing cancer treatments. The veterans were so humbled to receive these quilts. Although HIPPA laws prevent showing pictures of the veteran patients, the smiles on their faces made the donors feel how lucky they were able to reach out and provide such great comfort.

Women volunteers at Quilts that Care worked long and hard over the past several months to sew these one-of-a-kind special quilts. Their enthusiasm and creativity make possible this project of gifting cancer patients with quilts. More than 200 Connecticut residents volunteer with Quilts that Care.

The group continues to move forward with its mission of providing comfort, warmth and love, one quilt at a time. Those who are interested are welcome to join them at QTC Headquarters at 130 Scott Road in Waterbury every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meetings also are held the first and third Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Harold Leever Cancer Center in Waterbury, the first and third Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bristol Library, and the first and third Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Litchfield Community Center. Other hours are listed on wwwfacebook.com/QuiltsThatCare. Contact them at QTCContact@gmail.com.
