Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and nurse

Adrienne (Marrone) Knowles, 68, of Middlebury passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Joseph B. Knowles.

Adrienne was born Dec. 18, 1948 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late John and Anne (Mercuri) Marrone and was a lifelong Middlebury resident. She attended Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from Mattatuck Community College, where she earned her associate degree in nursing and from Western Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Prior to her retirement, Adrienne was the director of staff development at the State of Connecticut Riverview Hospital in Middletown. She was an accomplished artist. Her murals, trompe l’oeil paintings and stained glass pieces are in private homes, restaurants, churches and public spaces in the area. As a health care educator, she also authored and illustrated her training materials. Adrienne held patents on medical devices she invented. As proprietor of Knowles & Co. Training Resources for many years, she taught first aid, CPR and other health care skills to countless day care providers and others throughout the state.

Besides her husband of 45 years of Middlebury, she leaves three sons, Edward Knowles and his wife, Katherine, of Middleboro, Mass.; Sean Knowles of Middlebury; John Fiordlisi and his wife, Lori, of North Charleston, S.C.; her siblings, Claire Fitzgerald and her husband, William, of Naugatuck; Judith Townsend of Middlebury; Louis Marrone and his wife, Margaret, of Middlebury; Joseph Marrone and his wife, Linda, of Middlebury; and seven grandchildren, Edward, Nevaeh, Rose, Hunter, Darby, Isabelle and Gabriella. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Dorothy Knowles; brothers-in-law, Brian Knowles and Kevin Knowles of Naugatuck, as well as many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 318 Church St. in Naugatuck, Conn. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury, Conn.
