Conversation about “13 Reasons Why”

#MIDDLEBURY #13ReasonsWhy

S.M.A.R.T., Inc. is facilitating a community conversation about the themes in the Netflix Series “13 Reasons Why” Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Southbury Town Hall in Room 205.

13 REASONS WHY PARENTS SHOULD ATTEND

13.  Because you want to understand what all the hype is about – what’s the big fuss over this show?

12.  Because the show explores real-life issues prevalent in today’s society. And it’s important to know what’s significant, what’s minimized, what’s glorified, etc.

11.  Because its highly probable (not just possible) that your child(ren) deal directly with at least one of these issues and indirectly with several.

10.  Because things are not always as they seem – just because your child SAYS they are okay/nothing’s wrong, that does not necessarily mean it is true.

9.  Because sharing information, learning and being informed are the best ways to be prepared.

8.  Because every parent should learn what to look for, how to recognize red flags and be able to identify signs/symptoms/behaviors that could save a life.

7.  Because ignoring problems doesn’t make them go away.

6.  Because talking is hard, but losing our youth is harder.

5.  Because sometimes our children need to borrow our voices when they can’t find their own.

4.  Because shedding light on these sensitive/controversial issues is the only way to shatter stigmas and promote positive, healthy conversation and communication.

3.  Because you aren’t sure what goes on at your kid’s school on a daily basis.

2.  Because you may not know the resources available in your community.

1.  Because you recognize as a parent it is your job to protect your child at all times.

S.M.A.R.T. members look forward to seeing you there for this important conversation. Please feel free to share this invitation!
