Talk on Jews in the Former Soviet Union

The Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut will present a talk by David Benish, “Jews of the Former Soviet Union: Challenges and Prospects,” Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Federation at 444 Main St. N. in Southbury. Benish is from World ORT, the world’s largest Jewish education and vocational training nongovernmental organization. His talk also will include information about the impact of ORT in the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and the Jewish population abroad.

Benish heads the representative office in the countries of the FSU of World ORT. In this role, Benish has emphasized strengthening the World ORT ties with Jewish communities, municipal and government educational authorities, and various Jewish international and local organizations as well as with the governments in the FSU.

Prior to joining the World ORT, Mr. Benish spent 12 years with the prime minister of Israel’s office in a number of posts in Israel and in the Israeli embassies in Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
