Contractor charged with theft

Middlebury emblemMiddlebury Police Chief James Viadero said contractor Jad Harb of Middlebury was arrested by Middlebury Police Officer Fred Marcantonio Monday. Harb was charged with first-degree larceny and criminal trespass after the Middlebury Police Department obtained an arrest warrant. Harb was released on his own recognizance after processing at the Middlebury Police Department.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred Jan. 30, 2015. That is when officers received a complaint from the owner of a home that was being built on Washington Drive. The homeowner said that Harb, the contractor building the home, had illegally entered the home and removed new cabinetry that was purchased by the homeowner for installation.

The price of the items taken was in excess of $21,000. The homeowner said numerous attempts to settle the dispute prior to the arrest warrant being issued were futile. Harb is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2015.
