Power plant aviation hazard announcement set for Monday morning

A reliable source has informed the Bee-Intelligencer a major announcement regarding the hazard to aviation from the proposed Towantic Energy Center next to Oxford Airport will be held Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the 121 Restaurant at 7 Juliano Drive in Oxford.

The announcement is expected to publicly reveal the findings of “presumed hazard to aviation” from the Federal Aviation Administration regarding the height of the smokestacks and buildings and pollution and thermal plumes proposed by the CPV Towantic power plant less than 1/2 mile from the Oxford Airport.

State Sen. Joan Hartley, State Sen. Joe Crisco, State Rep. Tony D’Amelio, Selectman Ed St John and Selectman John Monteleone are expected to join Master Certified Flight Instructor Burt Stevens and concerned pilots and flight students from the airport facilities for the announcement. It is not clear who will make the announcement.

Pilots and aviation experts will be on hand to answer questions regarding the unique hazards created by the thermal and pollution plumes during critical phases of flight at the airport.
