Middlebury fire chief arrested

Middlebury First Selectman Edward B. St. John has appointed Tony Bruno as acting fire chief of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) following the arrest of Chief Paul Perrotti this morning. Channel 8 News, WTNH.com, reports Perrotti was arrested by federal authorities today. We have been told the arrest was made at 6 a.m. at Perrotti’s home.

In May, the FBI responded to a complaint by going to the Middlebury firehouse and seizing files and one or more computers. At the time, Perrotti said he would cooperate fully with authorities. Perrotti served a chief for 18 years.

St. John is expected to make a statement later today.
